New York Jets reveal new logo, uniforms for 2024 season

As they welcomed players back to the facilities for voluntary workouts on Monday, the New York Jets also revealed their new logo and uniforms for the 2024 season. The team’s new uniforms feature the re-vamped logo with a more distinct jet emblem above the word “Jets,” instead of the old logo, which had a football underneath the team mascot name.

The uniforms have subtle changes that are a nod to the Jets history. New York announced the uniform collection as the “Legacy Collection” on Monday.

The “Legacy Collection” comes in “legacy green, legacy white and legacy black.” The team says it’s a “nod to the Sack Exchange era (1979-89) while modernizing and improving the iconic logo that resonates with all generations of fans.”

“We work for the fans,” said Jets Chairman Woody Johnson. “They have consistently asked for us to return to our roots and we heard them. The new uniforms are explicitly designed to look and feel like the New York Jets while refreshing the club’s iconic logo – viewed by fans as our most identifiable mark.”

The legacy jerseys have double-stripe shoulders and single-stripe pants, the same design the team wore from 1979-89.

“Recreating our uniforms, as well as developing a modernized look for the organization signifies our commitment to progress, remaining innovative, and delivering excellence to our players and fans,” said Jets president Hymie Elhai. “Elevating the New York Jets identity with a refreshed uniform embodies the unity, and a timeless sense of the Sack Exchange era, while empowering every player and generations of fans to stand out and stay true to our team’s heritage.”

NFL now allowing third helmet option

The NFL is revising its uniform policy, allowing teams to have a third helmet. All 32 teams received a memo from the league on Wednesday that says teams going through a re-design process for the 2024 season have been offered a third helmet option. It will be available for all teams in 2025.

If a team wants to use a third helmet for the 2025 season, they have to inform the league no later than May 1, 2024. The second and third helmets can only be worn with the team’s authorized optimal uniforms (classic, alternate and/or color rush).

“If either alternate color helmet is paired with a Classic uniform, the helmet colors and designs must be historically compatible,” the memo states, via Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

The memo also states that teams must obtain a new set of alternate color helmets for all players. The helmets must be the same make, model and size as the applicable player’s primary helmet. When training camp begins, the alternate color helmets must be made available to all players, and they need to be worn in practice at a minimum during the week leading up to the game in which they will be used.

In 2021, the NFL approved a change in the uniform policy, allowing alternate helmets for the 2022 season. 13 teams wore alternate helmets in 2022, and more teams added alternate looks last year.
